Skadia
By Janice Kimball

I dreamed a day of ice and snow
a name was called I did not know
crystalline clear across arctic day
it reverberated brightly on it's way
and I knew the name to be my own
calling me both blood and bone
to an ancient place I once did roam
where had once known both hearth and home
I sought this name, I looked it up
for to me twas' a gift, a golden cup
and I found a Goddess by this name
our stories in some ways much the same
I realized then this girl was me
and only I could set her free
away from sorrow's leaden grip
from chalice of joy I'd see her sip
a chance to change the stories end
a choice to change where it would bend
in coming life she shall not weep
but find love and joy are hers to keep
her reward for simply doing well
and staying true through her own hell
but in this life she'll suffer more
before alls settled with the score
I took my gift, this promise sweet
and raised a toast to those I'd meet
That seemed a long lifetime ago
when I heard that name across the snow
Skadia your time now draws so near
where you shall nevermore shed a tear
but lift a goblet crystal clear
to coming times of joy and cheer
