The Secret of Happiness

If you will now pause to listen
To that which I have learned
I shall share with you a secret
That age and wisdom earned
When seeking joy in life
Here's a basic truth indeed
So your journey is successful
And leaves you not in need
When you set upon that journey
For seeking your own bliss
I ask for you to hold fast
To wisdom such as this:
Happiness, is most  often
In our own state of mind
Dependent not on others
Whether cruel, or kind
And when you think upon it
Please remember it is not
A bright, elusive butterfly
That is never, ever caught
To often we blame others
But they shall never hold
The happiness we seek
Like treasures made of gold
Do not seek joy in others
But I say look for it instead
Dancing within the confines of
Your soul, your heart and head
